To the smartest newgroup on the internet:
HELP!! I'm puzzled by the following info, and have some questions:
FACTS:
On 03/03/1911, ANDREW N. COREPB filed a "Declaration of Intention" to
become a US Citizen, saying he was 65 years old, and in the milk
business. In the handwriting of the Deputy Court Clerk, he said he was
born in FALSTER, DENMARK on 08/03/1845. He said his last foreign
residence was TILRISY D and he immigrated from MELBOURNE, NEW ZEALAND,
to San Francisco on the OCEANIC, arriving on 12/25/1909.
QUESTIONS:
(1) "Melbourne, New Zealand??" Is there such a place?? I can't seem to
find anything on it.
(2) "TILRISY D" is what the deputy clerk wrote. I wonder if he was
going to write DENMARK, but realized that the fellow said Melbourne, New
Zealand?? Tried to find a TILRISY in Denmark, but couldn't. Same goes
for finding it in Australia and New Zealand. Any thoughts??
(3) Does anyone have access to Ancestry that could confirm Corepb's
arrival on the Oceanic, and provide whatever other info is available in
those records?
While this isn't a relative of mine, I stumbled across these facts and I
was puzzled by all of this, and was trying to make some sense of it.
TILRISY seems to ring a bell, but I can't find anything on it ---
wherever it is.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Your suspicions are well-founded; there is no Melbourne in New Zealand.
Melbourne is the capital city of the State of Victoria, Australia.

THANKS Re: DK, AU, NZ, SanFran: HELP !!
Thanks: Hugh, e, Bernie & Svend for your thought on my questions. Hugh: The
clerks handwriting couldn't have been more clear on the last name, COREPB.
Maybe it was supposed to be an H, but he closed it up on the bottom. I tried
to find him (Andrew N. / Andreas COREPH) in Chicago for either the 1910 and
1920 census, but had no luck. The same goes for trying to find a death notice
in the Tribune for the period 1910-1920. I'm still curious to know if the ship
OCEANIC ever called at west coast ports, as everything that's been said seems
to show it coming from Europe to the east coast. Is there some website that
would catalog the itinerary of the ship -- at least for 1909 --- to see if it
made a trip into SanFrancisco? Until I can be sure of the last name, looking
at Danish records would be a waste of time.

Hugh:
<br>Why would I answer my own, original post?? I posted to the last posting
on the thread. I did see the signature, and its about one step away from
"his X". Horrible and was of no help in seeing if the clerk made a transcribing
error. The name "Andreas N. Coreph" came from the second posting in the
string, and is consistent with his being in Chicago. While I have an address,
and converted it into an ED for the 1910 census, I'll have to wait until
I can view films to see who lived there. Unfortunately, HeritageQuest doesn't
allow searches by ED. (Did the same for the 1920 census, just in case.)

(Did the same for the 1920 census, just in case.)

to maintain a logical structure in the discussion
all emails on one subject should be threaded
your guys is probably findable if Falster and the date of birth are correct
most of the danish data is arranged by parish and by date in each
church book
If you are serious about this research you need to learn to read 300
words of danish and a little gotisk handwriting and do some searching
for a week or two
or pay someone to search for you
or join the rootsweb denmark list
or go to Salt Lake City wher there are experts in danish research too
