Old Registry (Census, ...?) for 1839ff?

Hi

In my genealogical database (
http://www.daniel-stieger.ch/Genealogy/index.htm#F ) I have a large set of
Fischer emerging from the Canton Lucerne in Switzerland.

I know about a Franziska Fischer who arrived in "New Switzerland" (probably
Illinois) in 1839 (her passport was issued 7/31/1839). She worked as a maid
for the family Dr. Knoepfli and his wife Louise Schnyder-Knoepfli and the
children Louise, Sophi, and Theodore.

Unfortunately, I do not know when Franziska Fischer was born. But she came
from Sursee and was probably born in Oberkirch.

It is possible that her first name was changed into 'Francisca' and/or her
second name to 'Fisher'.

Is there something like a Census for 1839 ff for Illinois?

Many thanks,
Dani

I found this in the 1880 US Census.

Surname Given Age Sex Race Birthplace State County Location Year
FISCHER FRANZISKA 55 W GERM CT HARTFORD AVON 1880
FISCHER FRANZISKA 53 W GERM MO GASCONADE HERMANN 1880
FISCHER FRANZISKA 11 W NY NY MONROE 13-WD; ROCHESTER 1880

The us census actually says Prussia instead of Germany, but Heritage
Quest changed it to Germany when they transcribed the pages. I hope
Prussia in 1880 included Switzerland.

hth,

Jonathan
