can see the grave markers again.
Naturally, the sections I was interested in didn't have detail maps
available. I walked around a bit and stumbled onto ground markers that
I deciphered into block numbers and lot numbers, and that helped me
find my first target. Then I went to another section that appears
never to have had these markers, and the next section I went to had
a lot of them pulled out (by vandals?) and laying atop the ground.
A lot of the old markers had photographs on them. Of the ones I looked
at, most were of living persons, but one appeared to be a death picture;
a lady with short hair in a white gown in bed, eyes closed. Is that
common? (she died 1907)
Took along a few requests from findagrave.com, found some and e-mailed
the pix to the requestors.
I'll be going back at least once more, in case anyone needs anything
from Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside IL.
