Calling Illinois 1850

Legg inn av Darn » 09 feb 2007 21:05:03

I'm researching a slightly unusual connection in my family tree and
would appreciate some assistance from anyone with connections to
Illinois data from the 1850's and 1860's.

My great-great grandfather was born William Arnold abt 1830 in
Wiltshire England. He married Maria Sainsbury and they had a son
Simeon in 1853 in Wiltshire. Imagine my surprise to find their second
child, also a boy, was born in 1856 in Elgin, Illinois. A third child
also was born in Elgin, in 1858, called Elizabeth J (I believe the J
is for Jane after her grandmother). By 1865 they were back in UK, in
South Wales.

If anyone in USA can confirm this data for Illinois I would appreciate
it.

Many thanks,
David

I didn't find anything in the 1860 census for Kane County Illinois. There's
a Wm, but he was born in New York and has an 18yo son and a wife named
Levina.

I suspect they were in residence between censuses. I couldn't even find
them on passenger records.

But they're back in Wales in time for the 1861 Welsh so that narrows down
your search somewhat.
