Warning about ancestry.com!
I've tried repeatedly to get off ancestry.com mail list without
success. They make it deliberately difficult to get off their email
lists.
My suggestion is NEVER, NEVER purchase services from ancestry.com.
And if you decide you must purchase from them, do it with an email
address you are willing to throw away. Don't give them an email
address you care about!

Me and the OP apparently. Also they have a lot of "come on" emails they send
out. Genealogy related sites that show no indication they are related to
Ancestry, then you click on them and it takes you to Ancestry.com. I
personally dont have a problem with it, its almost like a reminder to spend
some time doing some research as many here know, you get on track doing
other things and sometimes Genealogy falls by the wayside for periods. I
have been doing Genealogy research for well over 25 years and even though I
still have a lot to do (I really need to get around to doing something new
in book form) and live two blocks from an LDS Library, still get
sidetracked.

That's all it claims to be-- what it is. Some people avoid it because of
their "opt out" subscription renewal practice. But I've never heard of
anyone, subscriber or not, being bombarded with soliciting emails like
you.

Me and the OP apparently. Also they have a lot of "come on" emails they
send out. Genealogy related sites that show no indication they are related
to Ancestry, then you click on them and it takes you to Ancestry.com. I
personally dont have a problem with it, its almost like a reminder to
spend some time doing some research as many here know, you get on track
doing other things and sometimes Genealogy falls by the wayside for
periods. I have been doing Genealogy research for well over 25 years and
even though I still have a lot to do (I really need to get around to doing
something new in book form) and live two blocks from an LDS Library,
still get sidetracked.
Hmmm. I guess I'll have to wait until I unsubscribe to experience what you
have. Maybe I should do just that and then stand by for a half price email
offer from them. I'm easy.

But those are NOT Ancestry.com. You can set up your own genealogy
site, and make a deal with Ancestry; they'll pay you for "click-
throughs." Some folks have made that the purpose of their site.
It's not Ancestry's fault, nor is it their doing.
And if that is the email you're getting, it's the owners of all
those little pages that are spamming you.

If I click a link and it takes me to Ancestry.com, and they authorized it
with a deal with the sites owners, then its Ancestry.coms responsibility.
You can delegate the authowity to do something but you cannot delgate the
responsibility for doing it.

Why?? I have been a subscriber for a number of years and have never yet
received emails except as a reminder that my subscription is due.

Same for me, Anne.
What exactly are they allegedly sending you?
