Hello all.
I currently received a .FBC file (Family tree maker backup file) that I
can not read. Received from a 90+ old gent that isn't able to use a
computer very well any more.
I tried the free FTM 6.0 viewer and it seems to make a FTW file, but it
complains that this file is from a newer version of FTM and can't open
it... what a laugh! Tried the Windows 3.1 version of the viewer and
decided against that really quickly.
Would someone make a GEDCOM version of this file
(http://cjgeno.atspace.com/fdez.fbc) from FTM, I would be greatful.
thanks.

Re: FTM (FBC) conversion needed
File has a lot of errors. Costa Ric instead of Costa Rica type of
errors. Few counties listed for the United States. At least one wife
has the husband surname twice. F.Y.I., file opened fine in FTM 9. I
will send GEDCOM separately.

Re: FTM (FBC) conversion needed
An .FBC file is a family tree compressed file. Assuming that you have the
correct version of Family Tree, then you open Family Tree, click on the
"file" menu, and then "open..." When the file dialog box comes up you will
see a box at the bottom that is labeled "Files Of Type..." That box is a
dropdown box that defaults to "Family Tree Maker (*.FTW)" Hit the down
arrow at the right of that box and change it to "Family Tree Maker
Compressed (*.FBC) Then look for your .FBC File just like you would if you
were opening a regular .FTW file.

Re: FTM (FBC) conversion needed
I am glad to hear that it opened fine. Don't worry about fixing
errors. I would rather prefer the GEDCOM will all the errors that my
wife's great grand uncle (on the mothers mothers side) made.
Because I first have to figure out what I am going to do with all of
this information.... yikes.
thanks.
