Can anyone suggest a program that is not too complicated? I am
currently using Simple Family Tree [see bottom of the page
http://jdmcox.com/],which is just short of what I want. I would like to
be able to save parts or whole of the tree as a separate file that can
be opened on any computer. I do not need to have any built-in links with
the Internet, just a glorified stand alone program!

I like the instant tree chart display.
I didn't see how to display sources.
You won't get the family trees displayed so easily, but Legacy
(http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ The standard version is free to
download ) will let you select bits of the database to export as
GedCom. It also provides drag and drop merging of databases. I
recommend downloading, trying a GedCom from your current files and
having a play.
