New York State or Federal Income tax records, circa 1945??

Googling around, I don't see a big emphasis on using state or federal
income tax records as a genealogy tool. Not even a phrase saying
"don't go there".

So, are these records available? - Mike

Modern records are not available. Civil War era information is available.
And Income Tax Records, 1862-1874, for states of Connecticut, Massachusetts,
Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, are available in NARA's
Northeast Region, Waltham, MA (Boston).
