Have you graduated from RootsMagic to a better program? You don't use
your copy of Rootsmagic any longer? In that case, you may be able to
sell it to me, entirely legally.

Email me at pain****t**blot**@***hotmail dot com (remove asterisks etc)

(Please ignore the gang of software writers and sellers who are trying
to shout me down because it threatens their profits).

Thanks

If any proof was needed that the previous "RootsMagic3 - sell me your
registration key" on this and other newsgroups is/was a scam, all you
need is look at this'n: slightly different subject line, hugely
different "From"", identical message and internal email address.

So, we can see that the OP is not the poor disabled victim of some
disease living on limited income and searching for a cheap way to
upgrade his RM3 trial package - he's a scammer and troll. Run, don't
walk, to the nearest doorway.

Sheesh, he's as stupid as he thinks we are.

Well, Bob, I'd love to know how you came to that conclusion. I'm able to
change my "from" email address to stop spam, and this makes me a crook?
How so, Bob?

I invite anyone to write to me at the address I gave. I shall then prove
to you that I am a legitimate person, PayPal verified (reputation of
96!) and we can chat on the phone or via my valid email address. I am no
scammer, but maybe Bob is. I see that his "Rio Grande Microsolutions"
company has no hits on a Google search, and he also seems to know an
awful lot about programming genealogy software. So there we have it,
another software maker, posting incognito, screaming at the thought of a
private transaction in which he cannot profit. Sickening.

Wow, you ARE stupid, aren't you?

When you asked to buy someone's registration key, we pointed out

software piracy MUST be a software vendor.

And I've concluded that the only person defending you is, in

ROOtsmagic,
You've done yourself a serious damage with the message quoted below. I've
followed the saga of the program registration with some interest and even
had some sympathy with your cause. However, your contrived implication about
the number of pictures of little boys on the website has put any validity
you may have had in the same toilet that your brain apparently exists in!
You obviously haven't thought this insinuation through! Any one reading it
would probably go to the website where they would, indeed, find pictures of
"little boys" AND little girls AND moms and dads and other pictures of
people involved in the owners interest in Genealogy! If having pictures of
children and their parents is cause for suspicion (in your mind) then I can
only assume that YOU don't have any pictures in your Genealogy research!
Also, could you please explain:
1) What proof do you have that Christopher is gay?

and

2) If Christopher is gay, why is that so important to you?

You have behaved like an idiot, and keep trying to get people to

indicators that you're an SOB.

Well, golly gee, shucks, Roots, you've gotten the attention you
obviously wanted. Sucked a lot of us in at first on another
group, trying to be helpful. Then the vulgarity and insults
started, particularly when you were called on a point by one or
another of the respondents.

Whether what you want to do is legal or not, and I'm not sure which
it is, your attitude sucks rocks: your ad hominem attacks on those
who've dared to disagree with you and what you want to do have
alienated not just me but others who might otherwise have been
inclined to be helpful.

As for your assertion that I must somehow be involved in the production
of genealogy software because I appear to know something about systems
and programming and am therefore prejudiced would be altogether
laughable if it weren't so pitiful. To set your mind at ease on the
matter, I'm a semi-retired UNIX systems administrator and, as such,
need to know programming and scripting, among other things, to do my
job effectively. I do genealogy as a hobby, not as a professional
pursuit. I frankly don't give a damn whether you con some poor,
gullible soul into selling you the license key - with or without
the software and manuals and original packaging materials - or not.

Now, Mark - or RootsMagic or Scrappy or whoever you are - it's time to
say goodbye. I wish I could say it's been a pleasure, but that'd be
as baldfaced a lie as your claim on another group to be unemployed and
suffering from a debilitating condition (what was it? CFS? Chronic
faker syndrome?).

"Troll" is perhaps the most overused and abused word in the English
language. It's supposed to signify someone who posts messages designed
to inflame passions as the primary goal. The term troll is highly
subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while
others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the
discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used to discredit
an opposing position, or its proponent, by argument ad hominem, as in
the case above.

"Petty and boring" - I have to agree with this. I was stunned at the
response to my original posting, and bemused as to why people (mainly
onsellers and developers of software, with a goodly smattering of me-too
posters and nasty right-wingers) reacted. My estimation of my fellow man
fell a few notches, gotta tell ya.

your terms of service

Newsgroups. The Usenet news service included with a Service account is
provided for interactive use by the subscriber, using a
commonly-available NNTP client such as Outlook Express News.

Messages posted to newsgroups must comply with the written charters,
FAQs or overall topics for those newsgroups.

Advertisements, solicitations, or other commercial messages should
be posted only in those newsgroups whose charters or FAQs explicitly

permit them. <<

You are responsible for determining the policies of a given newsgroup
before posting to it.

Posting or cross-posting the same or substantially similar messages to
more than eight newsgroups is prohibited. Our news software will
automatically cancel any messages posted to nine or more newsgroups.

Binary files may not be posted to newsgroups not specifically named for
that purpose. Users posting binary files to groups with policies
concerning the permissible daily volume of posted files are required to
observe those limitations.

You may not attempt to "flood" or disrupt Usenet newsgroups. Disruption
is defined as posting a large number of messages to a newsgroup, which
contain no substantive content, to the extent that normal discussion in
the group is significantly hindered. Examples of disruptive activities
include, but are not limited to, posting multiple messages with no text
in the body, or posting many follow-ups to messages with no new text.
Messages may not be canceled, except by the author or by official
newsgroup moderators performing their duties.

Forging, altering or removing header information is prohibited.

This includes attempting to circumvent the approval process for posting
to a moderated newsgroup.

Cox reserves the right to discontinue access to any Usenet newsgroup

Well it's clear that your goals don't include actually participating in
the community of Usenet.

Right. So my initial guess was right, and you are a garden-variety
troll. Ah well. You've wasted 3.2 minutes of my life, for your
scorecard. I'm done with you now. Have a great life there sparky, and
consider that it's possible, just possible, that those of us who spotted
you out already are the ones pulling YOUR strings.

Buh-bye now troll, feel free to respond; I shall not see it.

He seems to be posting to every genealogy group I read except methods
(alt.gen, oz+nz, computing, brit) and the 2 "dead" groups I monitor to move
newbies on (uk+ire and roots) under 2 or 3 names, so he's TRYING to
participate. He just hasn't realised that it's counter-productive to keep
sending the same message.....
If he's really looking for the unlock code, I suppose it's a tribute to the
gen community that nobody has fallen for it and he's still trying.

Well obviously you're gay.

"Obviously?" My girlfriend would disagree. As would most people
who actually know me.

And since the pictures - on my Genealogy page - are of my
grandfathers, my great-grand father, and various great-aunts and
uncles - they are entirely fitting.

I refused to subscribe to this list for years because it was such a
contentious lot with little to do about genealogy. Then in the past year I
decided to try it again and was surprised at what a good group it had
become. That streak seems to have run out now and while there are trolls and
bad guys out there ruffling the waters, it is the regulars that disturb me.
All the do-gooders intent on keeping their newsgroup pure and everyone in
line.
We all recognize off topic posts and inappropriate posts but it would not be
nearly as disruptive if all would keep their fingers off the keyboard and
let them die a natural death. It will not kill any of you to let someone
else have the last word even if it is a nasty one.

Gaydar. Plus he's virtually admitted it.

2) If Christopher is gay, why is that so important to you?

Not important to me at all. But the more he abuses and insults me, the
more curious I become about him.

The more someone abuses and insults you, the more CURIOUS you are about
them? Funny, curiosity is, on my list, right behind 'ignoring them
