My great grandfather arrived in England c.1880 by boat into London from
central Europe. I would like to trace boat/ship passenger lists from that
era. Can anyone suggest where I can begin? Internet or manually, dont mind.
Thanks

If you've got the name of the ship, it's doable. If you've
got a country-of-origin, it's doable. If you have a closer
date than Circa 1880, it'll be easier.
The more of those you have, the quicker it will be.
Your FIRST stop should be the Genuki pages (google it)
because their list of sources available in England is MUCH
longer than mine; second stop should probably TNA's website.
Whereever you go and however you begin, STAY FLEXIBLE on the
spelling. Remember how Brits spell Lester -- you'll get
Brits who make the same sort of error with Continental
names. And, as I have to keep reminding folks, if you're
illiterate in your mother tongue, you're probably illiterate
in all other languages as well.
