Looking for census and other info 1881 - 1905

Legg inn av Ron Martell » 10 jan 2007 00:00:11

Looking for information regarding Lewis Nathaniel Martell born 1851 in
Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada and his wife Louisa Wilhelmine Teges
born 1853/1856 in New Jersey. I am trying to track them, and any
children, for the period 1881 onwards.

They were married in 1879 (location not certain) and on the 1880
Census they were living in in Bird Island, Minnesota. Lewis died in
1905 in San Diego, California while working on a construction project.
His obituary states that his wife and a daughter (unnamed) were living
in Oakland at the time.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Also we suspect that Louisa may be the Louisa Martell who died 24 Nov
1920 in Los Angeles (file 42845) but the online information is not
sufficient to confirm that this is the same person. Any help with
this would also be appreciated.

I am sending the 1900 U. S. Census image which shows Lewis his wife and
daughter Gladys and the 1910 U. S. Census image with Louisa, daughter Gladys
and Louisa's mother.

I was just getting ready to send him the same images, but saw your posting
first.

Ron has been an extremely helpful fellow in technical forums, helping folks
to solve software problems (and he helped me years ago with some Windows
issues). I'll be happy to finally repay that kindness by doing any lookups.

Thanks Mike. I got the images okay and most of the information is
quite readable. However, on the 1910 census page I can't decipher
the surname of Louisa's mother. We have it as Teges from other
sources but the written name does not seem to match this. Can you
see it any clearer at your end?

I'm sending you the 1870 census for what looks like a good match for Louisa
Yeager and her parents, Chas. and Lavinia Yeager, in Dakota Co, MN.

Lewis and Louisa also seem to have a daughter, Pearl, married to a Richard
O. Zuckerman. She's mentioned in Lewis' 1905 death notice in the Oakland
Tribune. I think she's in New York in 1910 and Gladys followed her there in
1920. Do you need any of the images for that info, since it's after 1905?
