I am researching a family who came to Canada from Galicia, about 1903
and am wondering if someone knows the English equivalent for the
following Polish given names:
Wasnaka or Warnaka
Olenka or Olsuka
Renka
Laudic or Laudie
Thanks,
Ann

This is a pretty good site, but in searching for your names, I only found
one, Olenka, and it did not show an English equivalent. But the site is not
exactly in alphabetical order for each country, although it is close. You
might do a search and find the others that you are looking for, or maybe
something similar.

You might also post your same question on soc.genealogy.slavic news group.

Probably :
Olenka => [diminutive] Aleksandra => ALEXANDRA
Renka => ( I ) renka => [diminutiwe] Irena => IRENE
Laudie => Klaudia ? => CLAUDIA
I have not idea about Wasnaka. Do you have the original text ? If you
sent mi scan, I will try to read it.

Interesting site and it was of some help. I will try the
soc.genealogy.slavic new group.
Also thanks to Wojtek for the offer to read the document, but I have no
problem reading it. The problem comes from the folks using the
Galician/Polish version of their given names on the 1906 census and then
switching to the English version on the 1911 census for Canada. I am
hoping the first names will help me determine if I am following the correct
family.
