Drowning in Alaska pre 1913 state records; James Travers

Legg inn av Gjest » 20 des 2006 19:45:43

Are there any folks out there who are knowledgeable about drownings in
Alaska before 1913?

My g-grandmother's brother, James Travers "drowned in Alaska" circa 1910-3,
or earlier.
--I've sent for a death certificate, but they start in 1913, and I think
he died by 1912.

Any suggestions??? His family and sole grandson have died, so I can't get
help from descendants. The picture I have of James says (on the back) "off
to Alaska, with McKeever"
--dunno who McKeever is; I'd be quite lucky if he was a well-known
figure!

I think James and his son James both worked in grain elevators--at least
when they were in the Seattle area. The son James also died in Alaska, but
I have info on his death.

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated!

P.S. I posted this question about 9 years ago under a defunct email account.

Newspapers are often a good backup in the absence of official records.

Don't forget to check both in the area where the death is supposed to
have occurred and his "home" area, if different.

Kate,

So, you just need an exact date of death? Do you know when he went to
Alaska? Do you know where he was living? If you can pinpoint an area that
he may have been living around the time of his death then you could possibly
contact a church or local genealogy group to help you. Do you know if he
was lost at sea or was his body recovered and buried? There should be some
record of that if that was the case.

You mentioned that you had info on the son's death, does anyone else in his
family have a bible or was someone appointed to handle the family papers?

I wish I had something more concrete to suggest to you. Perhaps someone
else here will have a better avenue to pursue.

Good luck!

Happy Holidays!
