HeritageQuest indexes her as:

MCKEAN MOOSE M 24 F W PA
PA CLEARFIELD HOUTZDALE BORO 1900
(it's at the bottom of the page)

I have two questions: what IS her name really? and what's
the surname of the HoH who is her stepfather?

HQ's image is blurry and even after I magnified it, I
couldn't read it.

2nd opinions welcome.

What always hangs me up is when they apparently get the parents' birthplaces
messed up, as here. Looks like Ella (presumably Moose's mother) was born
in Maryland but Moose's mother is shown born in Penna. I see it messed up
often enough to not let it hang me up, but it's still a grabber.

Always possible that Moose's birth mother married Wm second and then died,
but Occam's Razor and all that...

Thanks, John. Odd ... HQ showed Bartha as Martha, which is
who I was seeking; that person's details match my Martha,
bd, bp, parents' bp. It's probably a problem (g) that
Martha had no child named Ella -- Emma and Ellen, not Ella.
Maybe I didn't find Martha after all ...

Thanks again!

If Ella is supposed to be Ellen, it's PA. IF that part is
true, then someone answered a question not-asked: Ella's
father's mother was born in Md.

Looking at the image, Martha is correct, not Bartha. And Ellen/Ella doesn't
seem too much of a stretch as an enumerator error or even a nickname.

Don't be so quick to think Ella and Ellen are not the same:

In 1880, Mabel McKEAN appears in Clinton Co., PA with her widowed mother:

1880 Clinton Co., PA (Beech Creek Borough)
ED 243, page 19 (page 3 struck through)
fam. #27
Ella M. McKEAN 29 Maryland Conn. Penna. (widow)
Mabel 03 Penna. MD Penna. daughter

On same page (fam. #24) is Elizabeth McKEAN (48, widow, PA PA PA) and her
large family, including unmarried sisters Annie M. (40) and Minnie (27)
LANDER, both born PA, parents born PA.

In 1880 Blair Co., PA (Tyrone Borough) appear Ella's parents:

ED 177, page 18
fam. #116
Elisha BUTLER 81 Conn. Conn. Conn. minister
Martha 62 PA PA PA wife
Ellsworth 18 PA Conn. PA son

[This Martha is the same as the Martha? BUTLER (aged 82) listed with Ella &
Mabel in 1900]

This is the same family indexed as "BULLER" (and actually looking like
that!) in this census listing:

1870 Centre Co., PA (Half Moon Township)
page 504, fam. #97
Elisha BULLER [sic] 73 Conn. minister of the gospel
Martha 52 PA keeping house
Ella 20 MD school teacher
Edwin 18 MD laborer
Elmina? 17 MD at home [fem.]
Eber? 11 PA at home [male]
Ellsworth 09 PA at home [male]

See also:
1860 Northumberland Co., PA (Borough of Sunbury)

Elisha BUTLER 60 Conn. clergyman, M.E. Ch.
Martha C. 43 PA
Elisha, Jr. 17 PA student classical institute
Emma M. 15 PA [fem.]
Electa? M. 12 PA [fem.]
Ellen M. 10 Maryland [obviously same as "Ella M." above,
mother of Mabel McKEAN]
Edwin 08 Maryland
Elmira M. 07 Maryland
Emanuel 04 PA
Eber? 01 PA [male]

1850 Washington Co., MD (Dst. #2)
page 160, fam. #924
Elisha BUTLER 50 Conn. minister of gospel
Martha 33 PA
Elisha 08 PA
Edmund 05 PA [seems to be marked male, then overwritten female]
