Why Blame the Board of the National Library of Ireland?

Stephen, a Chara,

Yes, it seems to be the way of government ministers on both sides of
the Irish Sea to kick certain matters in to touch or indeed, refer
these matters to persons or bodies not directly accountable to
parliament and thereby making the securing of a responsible reply to
any query from the public a tortuous affair indeed.

However, in this case the Minister is simply wrong in his reply and I
must say, it is very embarrassing to behold any government Minister
display such a tenuous grasp of his/her brief - but such is life!!

Kindest regards

Michael Merrigan

I do not know if Ministers and Civil Servants in Dublin are more or
less diligent that their cousins in London. However, reading the
article in the Gazette I did wonder if the Minister actually drafted it
himself rather than just signing something produced by a member of his
office. Either way it would appear that he has opted for the political
expediency of "passing the buck". It is a shame that it would now
appear that politicians, on both sides of the Irish Sea, no longer wish
to take responsibility for anything - unless, of course, it is a good
news story with a 'photo opportunity.

Yours aye

Stephen
