I was looking at the 1851 Canadian Census online and under occupation it
stated farmer prop. Any ideas what the prop means?

As in Farmer (Proprietor), distinct from Farmer (Tenant).

I would imagine it means that they owned their own property. They owned
the farm that they were working. They weren't merely sharecropping.
