I recently received the funeral home information regarding my gr gr
grandfather, John A. Harper and learned the A. stands for Applegate which I
think may be his mother's maiden name, but don't know for sure. He is
buried in Beech Grove Cemetery in Muncie, Delaware Co.,Indiana. In the
1900 census it says both he and his parents were born in Tennessee. In the
1910 census it says he was born in Tennessee but his father was from
England and his mother from Ireland.
If anyone could find his obituary from March 1916, I'd really appreciate the
information in it.

Re: John A. Harper b: 1862 Tennessee d: 1916 Indiana
Thanks for the information. I haven't found anyone else in the family in
Parke Co.and this says John was born in Indiana and the other census sheets
say he was born in Tennessee, but the information about John's marriage to
Frankie (if you could see the picture I have of her you'd never dream she
had a tomboy nickname) is what I have also. I was told (don't know if this
is true) that the parents' names weren't included on their marriage
license. Will use your information for more digging. Thanks.

The 1900 census says that John was born in Indiana and both of his parents
were born in Tennessee.
Have you written to the Delaware Co Dept. of Health for his death
certificate? You might also look in Parke Co for probate records. Marina
died there in 1907 or something close to that year. My notes I made for this
search are on my computer at work. A Clay Harper married around the same
time in Putnam Co as John and Frankie. That's probably the Claiborn Harper
from Parke Co. Parke Co is just west of Putnam Co.

Re: John A. Harper b: 1862 Tennessee d: 1916 Indiana
I'm sorry, you're right, the 1900 Census says he was born in Indiana and the
1910 says he was born in Tennessee. Their daughter Daisy died when she was
only 13 so isn't in the 1910 census. I haven't sent for the death
certificate yet because someone said parent's names weren't on them, but
I'm contacting the cemetery this coming week to see what else they have
besides the sheet from the funeral home. Its times like these I wish we
knew which person gave the census information.
Am going to see what else I can find on Clay (Claiborn) to see if there is
some family relationship. I was surprised when I learned Frankie and John
were married in Putnam Co. because she was from Hendricks Co., and they
moved to Delaware Co. Then I discovered she had relatives in Putnam.
Thanks again for your help. I'll keep digging.
