splitting a PAF file

Hi Folks,

Can anybody tell me how to export a portion of a PAF file in order to
create a separate PAF file which only includes a certain branch of the
original tree? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Ken,

I do not know much about PAF so I give you a work around.
If you do not have Legacy installed on your computer then I would
recommend that you download the Free version of Legacy from
Legacyfamilytree.com after registering online.
Legacy will send you an unlock code for when you install the program.
Once installed open up PAF and export your file as a GEDCom file naming
the file so you will know which GEDCom is which.
Open Legacy and import GEDCom
Click on the name list button and either type in a First name or a
Surname in the relevant query box if using the surname box you need to
put it in in the following format;
Doe, John
Once you have found your man or woman note the Record Identification
Number ( RIN ) you may need this especially if you have more than one
John DOE in your database.
Next click on file and select export to and chose GEDCom a separate
widow will open in this new widow click on the button "Record Selection"
a sub window will open click in the option "Selected records contain
focus group and then click on "View / Select Focus Group this in turn
will open another window that gives you a multi choice clicking on any
once of these ought to bring up the person you are wanting to export if
this is not the correct person you do have options of being able to
select this person.
If wanting to export a complete branch of a Family I would find the
Oldest record for that branch and Export the Descendants of that person
which is one of the options you will have.
Hope this is of some help to you.
David.

Select FILE / EXPORT to PAF 5. Select PARTIAL and select the
individuals that you want. This is exactly what it was designed for.
