Legg inn av Karen Elvers » 31 okt 2006 10:31:32

Please looking in Census 1900 in Racine, Wisconsin, after Johanna, 42 years,
a married wife, born I Sweden / Denmark, she emigrated to New York 10. June
1895, and she said that she go to Racine, where here brother Olof Wingren
lived.

She said on the ship to New York, that she comes from Denmark, it is ok,
because she lived 20 years in Denmark, but she is born in Sweden 26. May
1858. I know that she is not in census 1900 with here born name Wingren.

Morning, Karen...

I find an Olof Wingren and Johanna Wingren living in Wisconsin, but,
they are listed as husband and wife, 1900 and 1910 census. Where
was Johanna's husband when she came to the US? I found Johanna's
arrival in 1895, but, there is no second page indicating where she is
going and to what relative. Any other information available?

Bob

Morning!

Yes, I know that Olof is married with Johanna M. Wingren, born Aug 1843, but
it is his wife. I am looking after his sister, Johanna Wingren born 26. May
1858.

She did arrive and is listed on the manifest in 1895, when she arrives to
New York. I think she arrived to Racne, Wisconsin, and after that she is
married or dead before 1900.

There's a Johanna Eskeland, living in the town of Racine and married to
Christ Eskeland. They've been married for 4 years, and her place of
birth is given as Denmark, with parents born in Denmark. Immigration
year is given as 1888, though, and her birth month and year are given as
May, 1859. There are some Johanna's who have the right birth year, and
birth place of Sweden, but they've been married for over 10 years, and
your queries have indicated that Johanna was not married when she arrived.

The Wisconsin Historial Society has online indexes that are searchable:
http://www.wisconsinhistory.org

The details don't provide information as to the person's age or place of
birth, or even if she was single or married. The only information
provided has to do with the death certificate and is the information
that you'd need in order to get a copy of her death certificate. These
are the Johanna's who died in Racine County from 1895-1900:

In 1896, there are Johanna Stoffel who died on April 25, 1896 and
Johanna Jacobsen, who died November 1, 1896.

In 1897, there are Johanna W. Gehritz, on March 6, 1897, and Johanna
Reiplinger, on March 7, 1897.

In 1898, there are Johanna Peters, on April 5, 1898, and Johanna Powers,
who died August 24, 1898.

There were no Johanna's listed for 1899.

In 1900, there are Johanna Heidenbluth, on March 20, 1900, Johanna
Gottlike, on March 20, 1900, Johanna Hanson, on September 18, 1900, and
Johanna Hanlschka on November 13, 1900.

This was using the search name of Johanna, and no other spellings.
