Help please. I am trying to take all the information from my Generations 5.2
program to Family Tree Maker but am having trouble getting the Source
Citation data across into GEDCOM and then into FTW. Can anyone help please.

Peter,

I'll bet you used free-form sources, didn't you? That will be a problem
no matter which genealogy program you import into. In Legacy, the free-
form sources import into the Text of Source field.

Hi Peter,

I have found the same problem, where the sources don't seem to
export/import. I use both Generations v8.5a (previously v5.2) and FTM 2005.
The major reason I purchased FTM was for the additional data CD's that came
with it and the free (for a limited time) online searching.

I use Generations as my working 'database' because I prefer the ease of use,
layout etc. FTM is good when sharing data, especially privatising the file.
The internet search facility is very useful and some of the reports are
handy as well. I don't use charts that often, so this isn't an issue in my
case.

Normally I export a Generations gedcom file, open the file in FTM and do
what I need to do in FTM. Any addditional data, or amendments is done in
Generations. Next time I need to use FTM, I just delete the existing file,
export a new gedcom and go again. It only takes a minute or so and I still
use the program that I prefer.

While this isn't a solution to your problem, it may be an acceptable
alternative method for what you want to do.

Regards
Bret
