Arrival look-up

Legg inn av Gjest » 15 okt 2006 19:00:05

Hello,

My great-grandfather came in the US in 1920 through EllisIsland
(I found his record, his name Lluk (=Lukas) Lakuriqi (misspelled
Lakurigi) and
he came with his brother Gregor Lakuriqi (also misspelled). It says
(and I know) that he resided earlier in Philadelphia, PA (circa
1911-1919). Lluk was born in 1902 +/- 1 year and Gregor around 1894.
Could someone help find out where they arrived the first time ? I don't
find
their record on ellisisland.
Thank you,

Jimmy Dillies

Jimmy,

I tried several different variations on the spelling of Lakurigi and I
couldn't find any other arrival records. I did look at the Ellis Island
records that you mentioned. I even tried to find the cousin (Andrea
Pappadrechika?) in Philadelphia that Luk and Gregor were going to meet.

There is also an Andrea Lakurigi on Ellis Island who arrived on the same
ship with Luk and Gregor. He lists a different father than Luk and Grego
(father is shown to be Antonio Lacuriggi) and was going to his uncle Kosma
D. Lakurigi also in Philadelphia. Are Antonio and Kosma brothers or
cousins? By the way, what ethnicity were they? On their manifest it says
Italian but then it looks crossed out and says Albanian.

I also tried the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records and couldn't find any of
these people so I'm not sure if their names were just badly transcribed or
their pages are illegible or what. Do you know the names of any other
family members? Obviously Luk married someone (or you wouldn't be here) so
what was his wife's name? Where did they live? What were their children's
names?

Maybe if we start at the more recent generations and work backwards, we'll
have more luck.

Let me know if you have more info and I'll try to search some for you.

Hello,
They are albanian but since they boarded in Italy they were referred as
Italian.
(moreover Vallona, sounding Italian is the Italian name of an Albanian
town...)
From what I collected, here is the information I have there were three
brothers :

Andon (=Antonio) whose children are Lluk and Gregor(io)
Petros whose child is Andrea
Kosma (=Konstantin)

We know from Ellisisland that the 3 cousins arrived in 1920 (3/23) and
Andrea stayed
at his uncle which was therefore already there.

Also, if you look for Andreas Papaeralamban on Ellislisland, you see
that he arrived in 1913 and
stayed at his friend .... Gregoir Lakuriqi, the Gregorio mentionned
above, living in Philadelphia. This proves that Gregor was already in
the US in 1913.

For the story, I know from the son of Lluk that :
- Lluk and Gregor lost their father young and moved to the US around
1910 (when exactly.. this is what I am trying to find out)
- Gregor died in the united states between 1920 and 1935
- Around 1935 Lluk went back to Albania got married and got stuck
because of the war and communism. His son, 'remigrated' to the united
states in 1991.

Thank you for your help,
I'm clueless on where and when Lluk and Gregor arrived first....

Don't have time right now to search for the rest. He is indexed as

Jimmy;

The passenger manifest from 1920 shows that the nearest relative to the
brothers at home, is their father, Antonio, living in Vallona - this
doesn't match with the family story of the father dying while Gregor and
Lluk were young, unless the family member who originally told that story
thought that they were young at the time of Anton's death - Grego(io) is
26 and Lluk (Lucas) is 18 on the manifest.

Also, the manifest shows that Gregor(io) had been in the U.S. from
11-19, in Philadelphia, PA, and that most likely indicated 1911-1919,
and not 11-19 years. There is NO listing for Lluk (Lucas) in those
categories - instead, there are dash marks. They can be ditto marks, or
they can be to indicate that there was no information from Lluk on that
question. Lluk's (Lucas) age in 1920 is given as 18, so if he'd been in
the U.S. during those same years, then he would have been 9 when he
first arrived, and I just can't see his parents letting a 9 year old go
running off with his older brother to the U.S., so perhaps he came
later, as an older teen? It's also possible that Lluk was not in the
U.S. before 1920, but that other family members got confused because so
many other relatives had been.

I also saw at FamilySearch.org, a birth record for an Amali Lakuriqi in
1910. What the record doesn't show is if this is a maiden name, or
married name, or the names of the parents.

Hope this helps,

Cathy

Indeed the parents didn't give the authorization to the young Lluk to
come, they had passed away.
As a relative, they wrote the name of their father but he had already
passed away at that time...
Thanks for your help,
