GENEALOGY & NAVAL SHIP RESEARCH

Legg inn av Bud » 14 okt 2006 10:06:21

Hi,
I have been envolved in researching U.S. Naval Warship History for many
years. While compiling information about Warships, Liberty ships, and a few
related warship subjects, I then posted a Web Site
http://www.angelfire.com/in/shiphistory/ of some of my writings on what I
have found to be of interest.
I wish to offer any of my information on U.S. Naval Warships to all that
could use any part of it in their genealogy research. I will also offer to
research a vessel for you, and e-mail, snail mail, or fax the results to
you.
I do not nor will I request any money for this completely "free" offer. My
feeling is I do this as a hobby....and I get great enjoyment out of
"offering it to whomever request it".
Now I don't set here and wish you to think I "know it all"...because I
don't.....but if you have a question, or wish a "shiphistory"
....hey!!!...just give me a shout and I'll do my best to answer your question
or provide the information....and the source of that information if you so
wish......Completely free for the asking.
You can, if you so wish, visit my web site....I have some interesting...(I
believe it to be anyway) ...material to read....or if you'd like to e-mail
me direct that would be good also..... mailto:cshortridge@comcast.net

I would enjoy hearing from you

Goodonya Bud! While I don't have any genealogical interest in the US

Navy, I wish everyone had your attitude to the sharing of information.
Some people/companies seem to see genealogy as a huge income provider -
unfortunately a lot of it is not a legitimate renumeration for effort
expended.

Well Anne,
My interest is not in "money"....my interest is in learning and obtaining
information.....but the icing on the cake is sharing whatever is
found.........WoW!!!....that is neat....at least to me it is.
Well the offer is there if anyone wishes to take me up on it........but like
I said...I don't stand here and pretend to know it all, but I'll sure share
what I know....and what I don't I'll just tell you right up front I can't
obtain it.

Thanks for your comment
It is much appreciated

Bud:

My "area of knowledge" does not include naval vessels BUT while
researching one particualr relative I did need to look into WWII Merchant
Marine vessels. A very kind gentleman sent me a copy of "Freighters and
Tankers of the US Merchant Marine" by Gordon Growden: 1954. It is not
comprehensive but it does describe different sorts of vessels with
particualr examples. One is the SS Gulfray which was of interest to my line
of inquiry. If you do not have this reference and feel it would help let me
know and I will send a copy.

Bud,

It's a wonderful service that you are doing, and you're most generous in
doing it.

Many of us do research and never receive (or ask for) any monetary
compensation for it. There's plenty of reward enough in helping someone get
over, through, or around a "brick wall" they've run into in their heritage
work. It's such a great feeling.

Well done. Thank you for doing it.

Raymond I've been attempting to send you my address but the e-mail keeps
coming back to me.....would it be possible for you to send me "another
e-mail" address so I can get in touch.

Thanks
