Locating Grosvenors Corners Cemetery
I'm trying to properly locate Grosvenors Corners Cemetery in Cobleskill,
Schoharie County, NY.
The web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyschoha/cemgrosv.html suggests
that it can be found on the Grosvenor Corners - Central Bridge highway in
the Town of Carlisle.
I'd like to be able to pin down the Lat. & Long. of this cemetery, and
I'm using the site: http://www.infosports.com/m/map.htm to do this right
now. Trouble is I can't see the Central Bridge Highway!
Can somebody please supply me with a more accurate location?
Thanks
Dave

Try looking for the current spelling: Grovenor's Corners.
Mapquest will take you right there.
Wow, what a SUCKY mapping system - the worst I've ever seen. Why
are you using this thing? How do you navigate it? YUCK.
This is the intersection of Grovener's Corner Road and the
highway to Central Bridge (Rt. 30a):
42°42'57.95"N
74°20'13.77"W
Go to Mapquest and type "Central Bridge, NY" the intersection is
just north of town.

Well, there are lots of little towns that show up on maps, but
are really just parts of larger towns. Grovenor's Corners and
Central Bridge are really not much more than crossroads with a
cluster of houses at them. I'd be surprised if they had their
own municipal governments.

I found this site on the web http://brainygeography.com/
It lets you find features that are subdivisions of the larger cities and
towns. The military listings are historical and not current installations.

I finally got Google Earth to show that location using the
coordinates in absolute decimal format:
42.7229, -074.3642
Which puts the cemetery on - Grovenor Corners Road, according to
current maps for the area. It BECOMES Voege Road once it crosses
Caverns Road. At that junction, Grovenor Corners Road takes a
turn and becomes Cavern Road. And if you lived there, I bet
you'd find the entire length is marked "Hwy 10".
Similar problem in Miami, Florisa - two of our major highways are
the Dolphin Expressway and the Palmetto Expressway. Every
traffic report discusses them - "traffic accident on the
Palmetto!" But there isn't a single sign identifying them as
anything other than Route 836 and Route 826 anywhere.
