Any tips on...

using a camera at a family history library?

Last week I got some printouts - some are very easy to read,
others are less than... so tonight and/ or tomorrow I want
to take pictures instead.

I think a tripod would help and no flash. Should the camera
be set for Macro mode? Should I set the resolution high or
low? Anything else?

The equipement I am working on projects the image to a white
board so there is no "screen" .

take care

I use mine with very good results. I assume you're talking about an
overhead projector viewer. I found that by holding the camera against
the top of the wooden projector box to steady it I can get very sharp
blur free images. It helps if you have a camera with a rotatable screen
so that you can see the image.
Flash will not help, in fact if you were to use flash you would end up
with a nice shot of the white paper.
Macro? it depends on how close your camera will focus. Try it out before
you go. You'll be shooting at about a distance of two feet or so.
Resolution? the higher that you can use the more detail you'll get,
you'll have to balance that with size of the storage card.

Good hunting

Thanks Ray...

I tried that - all the pictures I got turned out clear but
my picture taking needs to be improved - they are all a
little tilted - and the ones at the top of the page are
"stretched".

I set the focus to "night" and used a smallish tripod to
steady the camera - so there is some good contrast but I
still can't read the handwriting very well.

take care

I'm passing along an idea I read in a genealogy newsgroup: place a sheet of
colored paper down (light color would probably be best) and the microfische
image may show up more clearly.

You might also check this website. I have found some very good ideas here.
You can also pose the question to them and they will have readers of their
online newsletter answer.

Of course, you'll almost certainly get some very good help here.
