Lookup: Cape Breton

1840 Census for Cape Breton... looking for MORRIS WALLACE, who was
living there then. (born in Ireland as far as I know.) He had a son,
Richard, born in Nova Scotia in 1851, which if there was a census
image for 1860 in NS with them on it.. that would be great too. thanx
so much to anyone can help.

Since you're saying 1840, I'm assuming you're looking for a US Census,
but where's Cape Breton?

If you're not looking for a US census, then the date's 1841, and where's
Cape Breton?

Cape Breton is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. In the
late 1700s and early 1800s it was a separate British Colony but was
merged with Nova Scotia in 1820.

Census records (partial) for 1811, 1818, 1861, 1871, and every ten
years thereafter.

Start with http://www.rootsweb.com/~nscpbret/cbcenndx.html

There was an 1838 census for at least part of Cape Breton. I have a
transcription of one part of it (Main-a-Dieu area) but there is no
Wallace listed.

The surname queries section of the Cape Breton GenWeb site
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nscpbret/CCH/qryindex.htm
lists only one query for the surname Wallace. It is from someone
named Linda (no email address given) who appears to be looking for the
same information as the o.p.

Cheryl, as "brian" says, its in Nova Scotia... if Richard Wallace was
born in NS on or about 1851, then his father was in the NS area. I had
a dim lead that the father was residing in the Cape Breton area. Also
a dim lead that his name was Morris. Records may not be around, and I
may never be able to find out.. but I keep asking on here once in
awhile simply because everyday new ppl look at this group. :) Just
like I ask of Jonas Wharton Holmes who was born feb 12, 1862 but I
cannot find a death date on him. I just know it was in the Trenton NJ
area... or somewhere in Mercer county. Someone on here berated me one
time for asking of that a few times.. which was spread over a year..
but like I say, there is always new ppl coming to search and someday I
may get lucky....

The point was -- this is an international group. Unless every reader
knows for certain there is one and only one Cape Breton in the world
you've got to specify a country. By specifying a country you enable
those of us who know nothing about Canadian or Zairean research to butt
out with a clear conscience, and with any luck at all you'll attract
someone who "wrote the book" on whatever you need to know.
