Hello fellow genealogists,

Although it has been many years since I last posted to a genealogy list
(or elsewhere) or dealt with ancestral research, I have recently
renewed my participation in this field. Specifically, I have updated
extensively my genealogy websites and would like to share this
information with you.

REPLANTING ROOTS, my personal genealogy website, has a new website
location and look, as well as new information about my family in a
cleaner display. I would encourage any of you researching the following
names in south-eastern Poland (the Przemysl and Bircza areas, and also
parts of Ukraine) to check it out: Bierfass, Freifeld, Hamer, Gärtner,
Goldsmith, Lauberfeld, Liszner, Löwenthal, Mond, Orling, Schnell,
Tepper, Tobias, Turner, Puryc, Bykow, Drozhanski, Oberlender.

BIRCZA ONLINE, the 'virtual shtetl' for the town of Bircza and its
environs has also been completely reshaped and includes a large number
of new information that would be useful to anyone researching this
area. This new material includes many new maps (both old and
contemporary), images (many photos -- as recent as last summer and as
old as the 1950s and 1960s, as well as scanned images of documents,
stamps, and signatures from the 19th-Century Jewish community), lists
(a large number of new lists: business listings, cemetery lists, Jewish
community tax and elections lists, and more), as well as other things,
such as the pre-1941 'phone book' directory that represents an attempt
at recreating a list of those resident in the Bircza area at the start
of the Nazi invasion. If you are researching the Bircza area, I'd also
like to invite you to join an ad hoc 'Association of Bircza
Researchers', which is basically a low-volume listserv of others
working on this area. http://bircza.googlepages.com/index.htm

Finally, the TEPPER GROUP, which focuses on the surname Tepper and its
variants (T-160 in Soundex) has also moved location and changed its
look. Here, you can read updated summaries posted by its members over
the years -- all researching Teppers, Toppers, and Topfers, as well as
join this 'unofficial' group listserv and have your information posted.

Although I created all three websites between 1996 and 1998, I must
shamefully admit that it's been many years since I last updated them.
Hopefully, with the recent updates that I've made, future maintenance
should be far more prompt and efficient. Thus, I would invite anyone
with new information to add to any of these websites, or anyone simply
looking to join the Bircza or Tepper groups, to contact me. Likewise,
if anyone sees any similarities to my personal family information, I
would love to hear from them (perhaps I will post my personal queries
in the coming weeks).

Best wishes to everyone,

D Gershon Lewental
