I've run into a massive brick wall so I'm hoping that maybe somebody
can give me some suggestions on what to do. I'm trying to figure out
the parantage and/or wife of my gr-gr-grandfather.
Here is what I know:
William H. Gardner
b. 1843 Michigan
d. 1873 Johnson County, Arkansas
In Dec 1863 he was in Warren County, Iowa where he enlisted in the
Union army. He served in the 1st Iowa Cavalry, company A. I've
contacted the NARA to get his military records and they sent me
information on another William H. Garder who was living in the same
county (the one they sent me was the wrong age and born in the wrong
place). There wasn't a pension filed on his behalf so I can't get
anything there.
He had 2 children:
Charles b. May 1869, Iowa
Olive b. 1871, I'm assuming in Iowa
I have a note saying that in the spring of 1873 the family left Iowa.
In May they were in Johnson County, Arkansas where his wife got sick
and died. Later in that same year William was shot and killed while
leaving the sawmill he was working at. This left the 2 children
orphaned.
I have not been able to find William on any census. If anybody has any
suggestions on what I can do to find out more information about him,
especially his wife and parants I would greatly appreciate it.

know if you want me to look into this further for you.
