American Ancestry vol 12/Alden Spooner
Does anyone know about these books? I saw them available on cds, I don't
know if they are legit or not. I have a note here, quoting from page 169:
in reference to Alden Spooner:
"...editor of the VT journal 1783-1827, legislator, state printer, a lineal
desc. of Dep.-Gov. John Alden, Richard Warren, Francis Cooke and Rev. John
Cooke, all of the "Mayflower" 1620"
Does anyone have this volume, if so can you confirm this or does anyone know
if this information is true and accurate? Alden Spooner is in our line and
we know that goes back to John Alden but I knew I ran across something about
other Mayflower passengers too.
Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks in advance

Sorry - that was vague but i didn't know any more about it when I posted
that.
it;s "American Ancestry Giving the Name and Descent, in the Male Line, of
Americans Who Settled in the US Before 1776, vol XII, 1899" . It is by
Thomas P. Hughes. Published: Albany, NY Joel Munsell's Sons, Pub. 1899
I found it online at a "old book" shop and at the SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY
CALIFORNIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, I have emailed them for info too. (crossing
fingers and hoping for a page scan!)

The 12 volumes have been reprinted in 4 volumes by Clearfield. Who published
them on CD, and under what catalog number?
I have not seen these volumes. Munsell was one of the foremost genealogical
publishers at the time, so the volumes are likely to be fairly good by late 19th
century standards, but probably undocumented and therefore of limited value.

Hmmm.. I have an ancestor who probably (emphasis on probably) got here
before 1776. Let us know if you can get it!

ok- will do. I am hoping to hear back from that california library (probably
slim chance) This quote from the book, in reference to Alden Spooner :
"...editor of the VT journal 1783-1827, legislator, state printer, a lineal
desc. of Dep.-Gov. John Alden, Richard Warren, Francis Cooke and Rev. John
Cooke, all of the "Mayflower" 1620"
is what I am after specifically. I know we have our history documented back
to John Alden of the Mayflower but it would interest me to follow the other
lines to these other passengers. I just have that little snippet of info but
I do have the volume and page #. I want to check it out.

I would be very cautious about buying such a CD. "Genealogy Home Library" is not
a recognized CD-ROM publisher - Googling it brings up lots of links to eBay
auctions and eBay stores, but none to reputable online merchants who sell
genealogical CD-ROMs. The quality of the scans on such a CD is a complete
unknown.
If you want the entire 12-volume set, BookFinder.com is showing two instances of
the 1998 reprint for about $80 per set. The eBay seller would want $97 for the
CDs containing vols. 3-12 (he appears to be out of vols. 1 & 2).
