Help with what relation I am to Ann Frank

Legg inn av MS » 10 apr 2006 13:11:56

Hi,

I'd like some help with working out what relation I am to Ann Frank, I
think it's a cousin of some kind but exactly what I have no idea.

My gradfather's father's brother was married to Ann Frank's mother's
sister. In other words my grandfather's uncle was married to Ann's aunt.

What relation would this mean my grandfather had to Ann?
What relation would this mean my father had to Ann?
What relation would this mean I had to Ann?

Thanks,

MS

As far as I can, there's no direct relation. Ann is not related to any one
in your direct line of ancestry so she's a collateral relative. The closet
I can see is that her aunt married your great uncle. Your great grandfather
would have been the brother-in-law to Ann's aunt but that's pretty much the
extent of the relationship.

Of course, I could be wrong. Why don't you type the names into a simply
family tree problem like Family Tree Maker and use the Relationship
Calculator?

Hope that helps.

From what you described, you are not actualy related to her. This
"relationship" is comparable to something along the lines of this situation.

Your uncle is married to Jane Doe. Jane Doe becomes your aunt by marriage.
Jane Doe's family is not related to you though.

Some families may treat a situation like this as an extended family, which
is fine. But in all manners of blood relation or even regarding legalities
and law, you are not related. I may be wrong but that is how I interpreted
your question.

It does help, many thanks.

"Why don't you type the names into a simply family tree problem like
Family Tree Maker and use the Relationship Calculator?"

Is there one on the web? All I can find requires a software download.

Cheers.

Hello *anonymous*,

There are loads of them on the web, some even freeware, you can actually
download all of them. Not one could get you even slightly related, so don't
bother.

Have a good one,

http://stevemorse.org/relation/calculator.html

is quite useful for the sort of relationship you described. In your
particular case you would enter
Father-Father-Father-Brother-Wife-Sister-Daughter.

Doing all that would confirm what several others have already told you -
that there is no blood relationship.

The only relationship you can claim is that Ann Frank's Aunt is the wife
of your Great Granduncle.

By the same, her Aunt is the wife of your grandfathers uncle.
