A Chairde,

On Tuesday April 11th 2006 the Genealogical Society of Ireland will
host its Monthly Open Meeting at 20.00hrs in the Dún Laoghaire College
of Further Education, Cumberland Street, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin,
Ireland. http://www.familyhistory.ie All Welcome. Contribution EUR3.00 p.p.

The Guest Speaker will be Mr. Pat Lynch of the British Legion (Republic
of Ireland) Branch on the topic of Irish soldiers returning from the
First World War. "When Paddy Came Home" will deal with the various
experiences of these British Army veterans who returned at the end of
the war in 1918 to an Ireland engulfed in political turmoil and
profound change. The Easter Rising in 1916 had set in motion
fundamental political change which was reflected in the General
Election of 1918 and the subsequent establishment of the First Dáil
which issued the Declaration of Independence on January 21st 1919. The
Irish War of Independence followed. The examination of the many
different experiences of these Irishmen on their return to their
homeland following the horrors of the Western Front is an important
contribution to the fuller understanding of this period of Irish
history.

The Genealogical Society of Ireland has recently published the
"Memorial Inscriptions of Grangegorman Military Cemetery, Dublin,
Ireland" - ISBN 1 898471 47 9 - see http://www.familyhistory.ie/shop

New Members always welcome. Travelling to the venue above by Dublin Bus

Salthill Station. Car parking at the college.

Kindest regards

Michael Merrigan
