During the Free for All week (until noon on December 7th) we are limiting
searches to specific time bands, rather than the full date range, in order
to deliver the best possible performance to our many users.

Yes, I do have broadband, and I've tried at several times of day.
Further, when I mouse over the results screen text and pictures go
flying everywhere. Another site using the Olive software engine works
OK, though -- the British Library demo at

This isn't going to help you, I guess, but I spent most of the weekend
checking stuff for my 1-place study (and getting distracted by all sorts of
other things). I had no trouble at all, no matter what time of day I used
it. I'm using IE with XP. I know that others have also had no problems.
Time's getting short, but it might be worth contacting them and asking about
your settings - it could be something to do with your security settings, for
example.

Will do another stint tonight
once I have a search I have simply right clicked on open article and open in

Wait a while as they all opened and look at each - save or close
Occasionally I had to refresh a window
Its been wonderful -- I just wish I had more time to give it

Re: Scotsman Digital Archive
Thanks everyone for the encouragement to keep trying. I got it working
on an older machine (NT4, IE 5). On first clicking "Open article", I
got a popup which doesn't happen on XP, IE 6 -- a form to "purchase"
the free sub -- so I guess it's something to do with that being
blocked, but I can't see how to unblock it. Looks like I have a long
night ahead...

You do need to make an account and log in - but they don't ask for money or
card details or anything, just an email address and password. I've actually
had an account with them since they started putting archives on line, and
I've never had any spam as a result. - they don't misuse the email addresses
of their registered accounts.

click and Save As, that long articles are split into several image

all the article.
Maybe there's another way to save things to disk, but I can't find it

I'm probably going to use the convert to text option and save that,
hoping to be able to correct the OCR errors later.
