Re: Social Security Index US
Social Security did not begin till sometime in the 1930's I believe. But if
you have more recent people to look up try this ...
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true
.... This is a free website.
It will not tell you the parents however.
Good luck,

You probably have to order the record from the SSA then. It cost me $26.00
when I ordered the record for an great grandaunt of mine though. It was
worth it as it solved a long time mystery about her.

The on-line index is an INDEX to the names of persons who died. It's
available from http://ssdi.rootsweb.com at no charge and from
http://www.familysearch.org as well.
Social Security Act was in 1935, effective in 1936; the on-going death
index was begun in Oct 1962. Social Security did not cover roughly half
the people in the US prior to about 1960.
Exceptions happened, but there is unlikely to be a Social Security
record for someone who died prior to the enactment of the program.

Re: Social Security Index US
Am sending the 1900 census image. Please note some discrepencies in what
you had thought. But I do think it is a match. The image is difficult to
read but if he was in the U.S. for 12 years that would indicate he
immigrated in 1887 or 8 rather than 1881. Also check out different ages.

Thank you for the invaluable info. Any suggestion on searching for the
