The first year

Legg inn av saki » 27 mai 2005 00:22:21

It was just a scant year ago that I posted my initial query to
alt.genealogy, looking for the name of my grandfather's mother---a name
that my late parents had claimed not to know. For over twenty years I'd
looked for evidence of my grandfather's birth in Chicago, without any
luck at all.

That big brick wall seemed a permanent part of my universe.

Within four days of my first post you folks had found my great-
grandmother's name in the 1910 census and indirectly put me in touch with
another researcher who was looking for her as well---a contact that led
to a lost cousin with family pictures and documents, not to mention a
plethora of ancestors about whom I'd known nothing. My so-called Scottish
heritage evaporated and was replaced by Danish and German, to my complete
surprise.

And as I found out the extent of my German ancestors, the regulars in
soc.genealogy.german helped me work back a couple centuries. You folks
have been most patient with my nascent genealogical work, correcting and
guiding me as necessary.

On the Danish side I'm back to the 1820s, on the German side to the
1770s...not bad for the first year.

I hope it's not out of place to post a collective "thanks" to every
person in these two newsgroups. I appreciate your help more than I can
say.

Saki,

I would say not out of place at all!!! Too often you see no thanks
offered to those who aided researchers (although they may have by
private emails) so a "thank you" is most welcome. And I am happy that
you received so much help!
