Help needed please for a Coat of Arms

Legg inn av Odd Job John » 08 mai 2005 10:23:57

I have two Coats of Arms that I would like the decription for.

Is there anywhere online, that is free, where I can get a proper description
for a Coat of Arms?

Thanks in advance.

regards
J.

http://renaissance.dm.net/heraldry/primer.html might be a start.

http://renaissance.dm.net/heraldry/blazons.html gives some examples (to
see the form).

What country are they from? The original issuer would of course have the
blazons on record.

From England.

Where
(a) they are often just "made up" (but can still be described)
(b) there's the Agincourt question

Don't forget a coat of arms was issued to a specific *person* and not
a family name :))

Also, don't forget that while that is true, there are people (especially
online) who will happily sell you a pretty coat of arms, tell you it's
"yours" because your last name is the same as the real owner, and
it still means exactly nothing, because it's not yours.

Depending on the country that issued the arms.

The OP already said England and thus it is true.
