Questions about SS-5

Legg inn av Gjest » 08 mai 2005 03:50:58

Hi folks,

After three weeks the SSA cashed my check for my great-grandmother's
original SS-5. How much longer until they send it out?

Also, I have the Social Security Number for a great-great-grandfather
who died in 1959. He is not listed in the SSDI, but there would be an
original SS-5 form right? Do I have to attach his death certificate to
my request?

Thanks,

I believe the site says to allow 6 to 8 weeks. Once the check clears
your bank, it generally a couple weeks longer.

Yes, everyone has to fill out an SS-5 -- IF they had a Social Security
Card. In the 1950s, a whole lot of folks didn't have one, didn't need
one. A copy of the death certificate or anything else official that
will prove he died is all they need -- and often the official death
certificate has his SSN, which makes things cheaper for you.
