To all German speaking...

Legg inn av Hubert Klingsland » 25 apr 2005 17:52:39

Hello
I have recently found information (at http://www.doew.at/php/gestapo/index)
about unknown to me so far, branch of my family-KLINGSLAND (Syblings:
Alfons, Alice and Martha, who lived in Wienna, Austria during II World
War).
Is there anyone of you, who speaks German, kind enough to help me to
find out more about history of those people in Wienna. Perhaps there
is a trace in death records or cemetary listings?
I know that Alfons KLingsland was an attorney - in 1947 he had a case
in court in Wienna - but that is all I know so far.
Thank you for all extra information.
Greetings from Poland
Hubert Klingsland

Hubert,

I'd be happy to help you but the page can not be found. Is the link
correct?

Thanks Joe!

OK, Hubert, basically this is what the website says about your possible
ancestors.

The main page says

No longer anonymous
Photos from the official identities cardfile of the Gestapo in Vienna

This selection from the so-called Gestapo cardfile contains, at present,
approximately 3,900 photos from NS-Opfern (sacrifice?), which, along with
biographical details such as information about the arrests and further
prosecution, completes the files. The cardfile which comes from the
inventory of the Vienna Local and National Archives, was entered into a
database in 2001 by DOW (Dokumentationsarchiv des Oesterreichischen
Widerstandes - Document Archives of the Austrian Resistance). Missing
photos could be partly restored from the inventory of the DOW.

The Klingsland are found under the heading Jews (German has two words,
Juedinnen for female Jews and Jueden for male Jews)

Alfons Klingsland, Vienna
born 10 Feb 1896

The legal attorney Alfons Klingsland, in a list from the Highland Court
Presidents of Vienna (31 Jan 1942), was registered as a half-breed (mixed
race) of the first degree, and was arrested on 20 October 1944 under
suspicion of high treason. He was imprisoned at KZ Mauthausen from 21
November 1944 til 18 Jan 1945.
His sisters Alice and Martha Klingsland were likewise apprehended.

Alice Klingsland, Vienna
born 27 Jan 1895

The secretary Alice Klingsland was arrested on 20 Oct 1944 under suspicion
of high treason. From the middle of March through 1 April 1945, she was
imprisoned at the work camp Oberlandzendorf.
Her siblings Alfons and Martha Klingsland were likewise apprehended.

Martha Klingsland, Vienna
born 20 Feb 1898

The secretary Martha Klingsland was officially identified and registered by
the Gestapo on 1 Nov 1944 in Vienna. From the middle of March through 1
April 1945, she was imprisoned at the work camp Oberlandzendorf.
Her siblings Alfons and Alice Klingsland were likewise apprehended.

That is a word for word translation to the best of my ability. While I did
study German for many years, was an exchange student and received a
certificate for German as a foreign language, I haven't used my German on a
regular basis for quite some time. If anyone sees any errors in my
translation, please feel free to correct it.

This is a very interesting website. It doesn't say if there is any further
information available on any of these individuals though.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Great job! Permit me to just clarify that I think the "NS-Opfern (sacrifice?)"
refers to *Victims of National Socialism* i.e. Nationalsozialismus (Nazi)

The "Highland Court President" may be what we all a Supreme Court Judge or
something similiar.

Let's leave the Highland(s) in Scotland. A Oberlandesgerichtspräsident
is the president of a state's supreme court. He may be a judge too, but
his function as president has nothing to do with a judge.

Thank you for the clarification. As I said, I tried a word for word
translation and that was a term I wasn't familiar with so I just took a
guess by breaking it down to its elements.

I wasn't familiar with term in that context. I'm glad to have a chance to
