Ohio Public Library Card Holders and HQ

If you have a library card from an Ohio County Library you have access to
Heritage Quest here

http://new.oplin.org/

Click on Research Databases then enter your library card number. There will
then be a list of resources and among them is HQ.

My HQ subscription is up on the 30th of this month. I was just looking
through my library's on-line site and came across this. Guess I have $35 for
other purposes now :)

Not all the Ohio libraries have subscribed, though, and the cards won't
work. I have had 2 different Butler Co. library cards issued from different
library systems within Butler Co. and neither apparently subscribed to
Heritage Quest. I tried my card number on more than one occasion and
neither worked. I finally just paid the $35 to join the Godfrey Library in
order to gain access.

I believe you have to go thru the Library site to get in. We have the

same thing here in Prince William County, Virginia, you go into the
Library site and then one of the options is to go to HQ, you put in
your card number and you are in.

It worked for me. I have a card that gives me access to the Cuyahoga and
Cleveland library systems. Thanks, Roland, for posting this.

Don't try to access HQ through your library. Go to the link I provided.

I did and still can't get in. I had gone through that several months ago
when someone else on another list posted the link for Ohio libraries.
Apparently each library has to subscribe and not all do. To double check it
wasn't my computer setup, the original poster at that time gave me her card
number so I could try. I got in with hers with no problem. I can get
Ancestry through our library but only if I go there. I had hoped I could
use this but can't. It seems like the majority of Ohio libraries subscribed
but the two I've belonged to did not. Oh well, the $35 fee to Godfrey isn't
bad for a year.

Not certain if it was this group or another group but they posted a link to
the Columbus Library that allowed you to get a card from them that worked.
It was an online registration and the only requirement was to be an Ohio
resident.

Thanks, Al. It must have been another group but I'll look into the Columbus
library. I still have some time left on my Godfrey membership, but when
that expires, this would certainly be an excellent resource.
