Census *test* Request

Legg inn av Roland » 14 apr 2005 00:36:44

I have Heritage Quest and in the census years 1790-1820 I am coming up with
blank results for the surname "Havens" in New Jersey. I also tried "Havans"
and "Havins".

Would SKS do a search at Ancestry for "Havens" in New Jersey in those years.
I am looking for a man named Samuel Havens but find it very odd that there
are no "Havens" listed at all on HQ.

Thanks
Roland

Could it be Haven?

Yes I believe so although no one in my line dropped the "s"(that I know of).
I just looked at HQ and found no "Haven" either. Strange.

Click on Browse and pick one of those years. Then click on "What you should know
about the nnnn census". Then look at "Census Losses". That should explain
1790-1820 where neither service will have NJ. HQ didn't index 1830, but I would
expect Ancestry to have it, although you could Browse the 1830 if you know the
location.

Somethings not right. I did a search on the given names Samuel and John in
NJ for those years and received no results. Anyone have an answer? I'm sure
NJ participated in the census.

Sorry, Rick, but I can't help with that question as I have no inside
knowledge for either Heritage Quest or Godfrey Library. I'm just your
everyday Joe Blow user who first heard about Godfrey somewhat over a
year ago because someone posted about it here in the newsgroup. I might
have made inquiry attempts about that 1830 index were it not for the
fact that I've been concentrating on my more recent research lately and
haven't been working on my colonial and early 1800's stuff.

Best regards

Bob
