Newspaper articles and old pictures

Legg inn av Jimbobean » 13 apr 2005 23:00:31

I need some of your help. I've come across a bunch of old newspapers and
pictures of important people (family) and need to find a way
to archieve them. Any suggestions? I have a laminator, and am wondering if
this is the route to go?

Thanks!

I am no expert, but depending on the size of the documents, I would make

a photocopy and then either laminate them or place them in
archival/acid-free plastic sheet protectors to be bound in loose-leaf
binders (or the hanging kind).

DO NOT laminate untreated newspaper. If it still has acids in the pulp,
you will only watch the paper disintegrate from within.

The best thing to do is to scan the newspapers into digital form, then
store them in the manner described in the above sites. Laminating
destroys the value of the peice as a collectible, and isn't really an
adequate method if the goal is simply to preserver them.
