Disappearing Great Grandfather

Legg inn av Phillip Murphy » 11 apr 2005 19:13:01

Hello again. I am having a heck of a time getting past my Great
Grandfather on my dad's side of the family. I did do a census search
and found my grandfather's family in the 1910 census.

Series T624
Roll 473
Page 90

They are the Murphy family at the bottom of the page.

Murphy, Daniel R. Husband
Rose A. Wife
Ella D
??? D
Rose B D
Kathlene D
Frances D
Richard S (My Grandfather)
Beatrice D
Joseph S

Anyway, I have searched the 1900, 1910, and 1880 censuses and cannot
find a Daniel or Rose Murphy in Kentucky or surrounding states that
matches the family. I am searching using Hertiage Quest - it doesn't
mention that the indexes are not complete (at least that I can find),
but maybe they are not complete? The 1910 census says they and all the
parents were born in Kentucky.

I am trying to trace it back to get Rose's parents names (she was a
Holland) and Daniel's parents names.

Any suggestions on how to get back further when they seem to drop off
the census roles?

Thanks,

Phillip

Phillip---

I find a Rose A. Holland, born about 1779, in the 1880 census in Kentucky.

I'm sending you the image.

The 1880 U.S. census at http://www.familysearch.org shows 8 entries in
Kentucky for Rose/Rosa/Rosie Holland born in Kentucky between 1865 and
1879.

There are 21 entries in Kentucky for Dan/Daniel Murphy with birthdates
ranging from 1810 to 1879.

I have found the family in 1900 in Daviess Co, KY.
However, your Daniel is listed as Richard. The other names---wife and
children---correspond with the 1910 census of Daniel and Rose, except that
Rose is listed as Rosa.

Am sending Daniel R. of right age and same county (Daviess, KY) in 1870 and
1880. Dad is Daniel and mother is Elizabeth. Looks like Elizabeth is the
head of the family in 1880.

Bingo!

And here is Rosa A. Murphy of the right age, living with parents Michael and
Catherine in 1870---- ** in the same community where I found Daniel R. as a
child living with his parents.**

I should have said "Rosa/ Rose A. Holland" living with her parents, Michael
and Catherine. Thank you for correcting me.
