Can someone please point me to the right place to look for three great
grand-uncles of mine who came from Hjørring Denmark in 1870-75. They
went to someplace in Wisconsin and at a later time, two of them (Søren
and Fred) moved to South Dakota. Names are Peter, Fred, and Søren
Andersen. I am almost certain that all of them changed the last name to
Anderson when they came.
Peter Christian - born 11 May 1848
Fred (middle name not found) - born about 1849
Søren Christian - Born 15 Aug 1852
An Aunt recalls that Søren took trips back to Denmark at regular
intervals until at least 1910. I cannot find any documentation for
that. I know Soren had a farm in SD as his nephew, my grandfather, was
gored by a bull on his farm and died shortly after (late May, 1916).
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

You could do a free search for them in the LDS 1880 US Census index at:

You could look through the Ellis Island records with:

He would have been recorded upon re-entry to the country and there is quite
a list of them for you to go through and check.
Try those for starters.

There was a Andersen, Søren Chr., age 35 (about right), from Hjorring headed for Truesdell,
Wisc, although it was in 1888. In any case, it's a good place to search for Danes. Give it a
try.

Re: Passenger list problem.
Paul, I think we might be related! My great-grandfather was Soren
Christian Anderson, born 15 Aug 1852, died 26 Dec 1933 in Aberdeen, SD.
What information do you need/want?

Re: Passenger list problem.
Thanks for the help. I did know about the Danish site you mentioned, I
have searched there extensively. I like the alternative interface into
the Ellis Island DB. I have to do some more searching there but no
immediate good results. The 1880 census has been a bust as well. I
expected to find Fred and Soren in either WI or Dakota but don't.
On the plus side, someone else who read the post thinks Soren may be a
relative of theirs!! How cool is that?
