SOUNDEX is an index system that was used on the 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920
census.
BUT
The 1880 census only index families IF there was a child under the age of 10
at the address.
The 1910 census is only indexed for a handful of states, and it is called
the Miracode instead of Soundex. The states are Alabama, Arkansas,
California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

BUT
The 1880 Census only soundexed families where a child under 10
lived at the address.
The 1910 Census did not soundex all states, by the way they called it
Miracode instead of soundex that year. The states covered were
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky,
Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The 1930 has an index for 13 or so states or fragments of states.
HeritageQuest has a partial index to it, and Ancestry seems to have an
every-name index for it.
