Finding an address in the census

Legg inn av Roland » 08 apr 2005 23:44:39

I have this address from a pension file, "Mrs. Elsie Skyles, RFD #1, Box 24,
Dayton, Ohio". The problem is that Skyles is her maiden name. I think that
it is possible that the person that submitted the information knew she had
married but not to who. So either it should have read "Miss Elsie Skyles" or
she did marry. Is there any way to locate this address in 1920 and see you
is living there?

Thanks

No. I do know that the family lived mainly in Randolph Twp just north of
Dayton but I do not know where this address is located. Where might I go to
find old addresses?

I had tried Mapquest, but it didn't like the address and Google didn't really
get me anywhere. There may be some significance to RFD 1 (Rural Free Delivery)
in that being the first it may have followed the main highway of development at
that time. My suggestion as always for local matters is to go to the local
people who you can find on the US Genweb. Here's their Ohio website:
http://www.scioto.org/OHGenWeb/
See if anyone can help you there.
