Hey,

I have been searching this family for over 20 years and can't seem to go
back any further than 1910.

James Richard Johnson B:1858 where?one census says MS and one says AR?
He married Alice E. Street B:1867 MS. Tippah.
They were married 1886 in Grayson Co., TX

They Moved to Atoka, OK 1910 and 1920 and 1930 James passed away 1945 and
Alive passes away 1954.

The family lore is that the father was John and passed away when James was 5
yrs old, and his mother passed away when he was nine,

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Barbara,

I'll do some searching for you and see what I can dig up but first I thought
I would suggest something. Check the Social Security Death Index (or I can
do it for you) and get James' SS # then send for his application. It costs
$27 and it may take about a month or two but it should have the full names
of his parents and where he was born. The best part about the SS
application is that it was filled out by the person himself (or herself) so
there is less chance for error as opposed to a death certificate which is
filled out by someone else at a stressful time and the informant might not
know the names of the deceased parents etc.

OK? I'll start checking and see what I can come up with. I like a
challenge!

Hey,

I have been searching this family for over 20 years and can't seem to go
back any further than 1910.

This family, including daughter Lottie, is living in Denison Ward 4, Grayson
Co., Texas in 1900. The census image shows James place of birth, as well as
his parents, as Alabama.

Mike,

Are you sure about that? The James Johnson you mentioned was born in 1857
not 1858 and is listed with wife, Sallie born in 1870 not Alice born in
1867.

Barbara, do you know the names of James and Alice's children and their
birthdates? I'll keep checking.

No I am not positive this is the family, but it is the closest match. A one
year birth difference, or more for that matter, is not uncommon in the
census images.

There are a James and Allice Johnson in the 1900 Federal Census,
Oklahoma. The writing is very faint, making it difficult to read the
family information, but I did make out the name Arthur, age 5 for one of
the children, and that would fit with the Arthur, aged 16 in the 1910
census.

The 1910 census indicated that all of the children were born in Oklahoma.

The information for the 1900 census for them is:
Year: 1900; Census Place: Moore, Pottawatomie, Oklahoma; Roll: T623
1342; Page: 2A; Enumeration District: 200.

Here's the family in 1900:

1900 Pottawatomie Co., OK; ED 200, page 2A (Moore) fam. #24
J. R. JOHNSON Oct 1863 36 (m. 13 yrs) MS ??? MS
Allice Jan 1871 29 (m. 13 yrs; 5 kids/5 living) MS MS MS wife
Evaret? Aug 1887 12 TX MS MS son
Mirtle? Dec 1890 10 Indian Terr. MS MS da.
????? ??? 1891 09 Indian Terr. MS MS da.
Auther Nov 1894 05 Indian Terr. MS MS son
Almet? Dec 1896 03 Indian Terr. MS MS da.

This man says in 1900 Pottawatomie Co., and in 1910-20-30 Atoka Co., OK,
that he was born in MS. I see no census record that says he was born in AR.
