I have a transcription of the 1930 census(which I have copied part of
below), I have been able to locate these same two households in 1920 and
when they were 1 household (just before my grandfather was born in 1910),
unfortunately before that I can not find anything about any of the "aunts &
uncles". My grandfather, Thomas Jr., was born in October of 1910, and used
to tell me stories about all of the aunts on Brown St. Eventually the house
went to my Grand-Uncle Ed, who never married and lived in the house his
entire adult life up until he passed away in the late 1990's. The house and
the contents (and I have been told he was a bit of a recluse and a packrat)
as far as I know were sold upon his death.
I would love to know who my grandfather grandparents were. I have been
totally unable to locate them in the 1900 census. If anyone has access to a
directory or can do any sort of a look up for this family I would be most
appreciative.

Re: Philadelphia, pre-1910
I believe that I've found the family in the 1900 Federal census for
Pennsylvania. They're in Philadelphia, but not on Brown Street. The
handwriting on the page is light, and there was some type of marking
done over the name of the head of household, so I can't make out his
name. I can send you the image if you'd like to view it, but here is
the information:
Year: 1900; Census Place: Philadelphia Ward 29, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; Roll: T623 1471; Page: 3B; Enumeration District: 719.
Shanley, ?, Head, born Mar 1850, age 50, married 27 years, born Ireland,
parents born Ireland, immigrated in 1851, worked as a teamster
Shanley, Mary F., wife, born Feb 1853, age 47, had 11 children, 9 still
living, born PA, parents born Ireland
Shanley, Katherine, daughter, born Sept 1874, age 25, born PA, father
born Ireland, mother born PA (this is the same for all the children, so
I won't repeat it for them), worked as a Saleslady in a drygoods store
Shanley, Mary, daughter, born May 1876, age 24, no occupation listed
Shanley, Margaret, daughter, born Dec 1877, age 22, operator (shirts)
Shanley, William P., son, born Aug 1879, age 20, shipping clerk
Shanley, Thomas, son, born Mar 1881, age 19, plumber's apprentice
Shanley, Elizabeth, daughter, born Feb 1883, age 17, operator (tailor)
Shanley, Julia, daughter, born Nov 1884, age 15, Child nurse
Shanley, Edward, son, born Dec 1886, age 13, at school
Shanely, John, son, born Mar 1891, age 9
I'm not having much luck finding the family in the 1880 Federal Census.
Hope that helps,
Cathy

Re: Philadelphia, pre-1910
Hi,
I took a look at the 1900 census and the head of the Shanley household is
Patrick then there are numbers written over it.
Hope that helps.
