If anybody happens to own a copy of the CD "Historical Atlas of
Wisconsin" with 1878 vintage maps, I would appreciate a lookup. Some of
the families that I'm researching were located in Dodge County just
north of Watertown in Emmet, Clyman, & Lowell. I'd be interested in
seeing if their farms were labelled on any maps.

Bob,
I, too, don't have what you are requesting.
The other day I was researching Green Lake county, WI, 1878
I found this. Perhaps this person has a map for Dodge county as well.
Just delete the last part of the address perhaps.

For example, http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/wi ... _city.html
shows one
area and the farm owners' names. A brother of my ggf Heiling was in
Lowell in 1870
and had moved to Emmet by 1880. Another brother was in Clyman from 1872
onwards. I
could pop for the CD only to discover - poof! - that they weren't on it!
$70
is a bit steep for 2 map images anyhow, so I'm hoping that someone who
has gotten
more use out of the CD than I can is listening.

Friend of mine is the registrar of deeds in Jefferson county, which is
one to the south. I'll ask him if he has any info on Dodge; seems to
me they used to be one county (by the way. They used to be one county,
so if you can't find Dodge in the years you're looking, check Jefferson
county for those years).
Have you checked the Bureau of Land Management's land patents site?
If they were the homesteaders, it'd be outlined there. Searchable and
online, I can scare up the URL if you can't.
Someone has got to have the dead-tree edition. I'll drop Larry a note
and ask him; do you have a close-ish description I could ask him to look
for, and a year?

Jefferson was created in 1836, my people arrived in 1865, and the CD is 1878, so that
isn't an issue. but deeds would be too much, just an image as in the example from the
CD.
I think they were too late for those as the ones I've seen are circa 1849-50. I was
told that Frank bought his farm in 1872.(Clyman)
The makers of the CD must have been photographing existing maps, but please don't go
to all that effort The advertisement for that CD in s.g.marketplace yesterday:
http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/wi ... index.html reminded me of the maps
that it has and I thought they would be nice to have as a sort of window-dressing.
They aren't essential like a birth or marriage record would be to establish a
relationship and I have that info. The help is appreciated, but perhaps someone who
has the CD will show up in the near future.

Finding out that my grandfather was a Petersen, not a MacLaughlan, was a

MacLaughlans in Watertown, so there's *some* Wisconsin connection.
