Just found out that my ggfather Alexander Stirling, who immigrated to the US
in 1860, was back in Scotland in 1871, and then getting married in NYC in
1874. Can some kind person check the immigration records and see if a
record exists of him coming Scotland to USA sometime between 1871 and 1874?
He was born Feb. 1839.
Thanks!
Chris

It sounds to me like Alexander had a sweetheart back in Scotland that he
went back for. A friend of mine had a gggfather who went back to
Westphalia, Prussia after coming to Detroit in 1832. He came here and
established a business after about five or six years, then went back and
brought back his girlfriend. Is it that sort of situation?

Re: Ancestry Immigration Lookup Please
I wondered about that, but I looked for his to-be wife in the 1871 census
and couldn't find her. However, I still hold out hope that if I can find
his 1871/4 re-immigration, she might be there with him!

Thank you to Alida Spry who sent me an image from 1873 ... the link that
ancestry sent me gave me no way to thank you directly!
It would be very interesting if this was the right guy since he has a wife &
child that I've never heard of! The age is close (36 in the link, my
ggfather would be 34) ...

Does his 1874 marriage record say he is a widower?
You should also look at Alex Stirling on the COLUMBIA 25 April 1872 b.
abt 1840, occupation jeweler.

Chris,
You're very welcome! I posted a reply to the group earlier but it hasn't
shown up yet. I guess it's lost in cyberspace somewhere.
Let me know if there's anything else you need me to check.
