Ancestry viewer patch
HI,
Does anyone know where to find the Ancestry viewer patch yet? It was
supposed to be released a week ago, to help us with Windows 98 who cannot
save an image with the new viewer, to our hard drives.
Thanks,
Nutty

While on this topic, are there any other Mac users who find the new

it much better! The controls there work as expected, and there are more
of them... It took me quite a while to find out how to get good quality
images back
OTOH, there appears to be no need for a dedicated viewer on a Mac; such
as it is, the interface seems to work "natively".
System 10.2.8, all the browsers I have tried (Safari, IE, Netscape,
Camino, Firefox).

the picture quality is not as good. Besides the searches seem to be more
"off" on the "other viewer". I've clicked on several links that were

Thanks all. I try to be patient but this has gone on so long. If Windows
98SE cannot save with the new viewer I wish we had been told before
subscribing that this would be the case. I did take off the new viewer but
the images are not as good without it. Each time I go to view the images I
am prompted to download the new viewer but there is a small "continue" at
the bottom left of the page you can use to opt out of it. Also so many of
the indexed names are not there when you go to the page where they are
supposed to be. However Ancestry does have some advantages. They have the
1930 census indexed. And some of the other census years have every name
indexes! However not all the indexes are complete. Hopefully ALL years
will be every name and completed soon.

I search the Ancestry census quite often and rarely have a problem being "sent"
to the wrong page. IIRC, all the census years from 1850 through 1930, except
for 1910, 1920, and a bit of 1900 can be searched by every name on Ancestry.
The 1900 is just about done, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the 1910
and 1920 to go every-name soon. Another big advantage I find with Ancestry is
the ability to do Soundex and partial name searches. HeritageQuest is a lot
cheaper, but falls short in the census advanced search department, compared to
Ancestry.
