I am looking for any and all information on Cecil Otis Hickman, my
grandfather. He was born 4/12/1895 in MO (parents, William and Nioma -
brothers, Paul & Gray), married Agnes C. Goodin in 1918 in MO, had 3
daughters, divorced in 1927, in 1930 he was married to Elise in IA, when he
died in 1969 in KY he was married to Bonnie Buchanan. He was some sort of
minister. That's about all I know.

I have several HICKMANs but this doesn't seem to be one of them.

BTW, the dreaded rogue cancelbot seems to be active again, and your message was
not available on my news server. Fortunately it was on my BBS. A number of
other messages seem to have suffered the same fate -- those about upgrading
TMG, for example.

Doesn't take a cancelbot, just a server with a short retention period. I
used to have one server that expired at 7 days.

But what's being talked about on this thread was posted just yesterday! :-)
The TMG posts were all likewise posted yesterday. No retention issues there
and I note that they are all on Giganews and on individual.net (Berlin,
Germany newsserver). It would appear that the problems, if any, are at
Steve's end. :-)

Stephen's been having this problem for a while now and there is a prob
his end with a rogue cancelbot which is managing to evade corrective
surgery.

The problem showed up here on Friday and Saturday on my Columbus, OH
roadrunner servers also. Titles downloaded on a synchronize, but some
messages were already deleted from the server.

The problem here is messages expiring in 7 hours, or 7 minutes.

That's pretty unspecific as to which messages were "already deleted from the
server " and gives us nothing credible to go on. If the Hayes' problem has also
effected you, then you should be missing the post that he referred to:

I should point out that I got the missing messages here on my BBS (which gets
them from a different news server).

One of the reasons for using both the BBS and a newsreader is the "belt and
braces" approach. Messages that go missing one one usually get through to the
other.

And as someone pointed out earlier, some news servers respond to cancel
messages, others don't, which is why some people can see the missing messages.
