A Social Security Index lookup

Legg inn av Hubert Klingsland » 05 mar 2005 09:33:31

Hello,
Could you please check in Social Security Index if there is an
information about living members of a Klingsland family (I am looking
for address, tel., email, or just any info). I am trying to get in
contact with a living "generation" of my ancestors that emigrated from
Europe to the USA before II World War. I know there is at least one -
MICHELLE KLINGSLAND - but I do not know where she lives. Thank you for
your help.

Hubert,

KLINGSLAND is not found in the USA.
(i.e. they do not buy stuff from catalogs and do not have a listed phone!)

There are however 6 people named "Kingland" and of them 3 have "M"

M A Kingland
Age 38

M T Kingland
Age 43

M M Kingland
Age 43

Do a google search on KLINGSLAND and you'll get a bunch of hits (112). At
the top where it asks if you want only English results, click on that to
narrow it down (23) or else add in some other criteria with KLINGSLAND. Use
a plus sign in front of each new search term (i.e. +KLINGSLAND +Michelle) or
use quotations marks ("Michelle KLINGSLAND").

You may also want to just go through all the hits even those in other
languages and try contacting those people who may lead you to contacts in
the US. I've had a lot of success with just simply emailing people with the
surname I'm researching even in other countries (Poland, Ukraine, Germany,
etc.)

Good luck!

For living persons you might simply enter thier surname into google and see
what comes up. You may also use online telephone directories. I believe that
the only persons who show on the SSDI are those who have, of course, died,
and who actually drew SS benefits or had survivors draw against thier
benefits. In other words not everyone with a SS number who has died will be
on this index. I believe this is correct. Good luck with your search. In
common useage SSDI normally stands for Social Security Disability Insurence.

According to Ancestry.com "The file is created from internal SSA records of
deceased persons possessing social security numbers and whose deaths were
reported to the SSA."

There are plenty of people in the SSDI who are under age 62 and probably
were not collecting Social Security benefits. The SSA wants to know about
people who die before collecting benefits to prevent future fraud using that
SS number.

Actually, as Dieter said, the "SSDI" is the "Social Security Death
Index" (available free online at http://www.familysearch.org -- select "Search"
and "US Social Security Death Index"). The disability insurance is
"Supplemental Security Income," or "SSI" (see http://www.ssa.gov/).

Government acronyms tend to confuse rather than clarify matters. Joe

To add to the confusion, besides SSI, which is disability payments for
people who've never been able to work (my step-son is on this due to
his uncontrolled seizures)(there are income limits), there's SSDI,
Social Security Disablity Insurance, not to be confused with the death
index, for people who have worked in the past and are now on disablity.

Hubert,

Just a quick note, I did a reverse search on http://www.infospace.com and got 103
people living at this address. It must be an apartment complex or condos.
No listing for Michelle Klingsland although there are a few people with
first initial M so perhaps she is married or no longer lives there.

Also, the area code is 480 not 602.

Happy Hunting!
